Qualifications:
Experience: After a work career of 30 years, both as a secretary in France and with U.S. law firms, I established my own freelance business, Editing, Ltd. I began my professional career in France, where I worked as a bilingual secretary for two law firms and one advertising agency. Requirements included taking shorthand and transcribing in French and English. I also acted as an interpreter when needed. Upon returning to the States, I continued working for law firms. I read, proofread and, in some instances, edited various business documents, contracts, pleadings and correspondence.

One might assume that working for attorneys is easy because, certainly, they must know the fundamentals of French/English grammar, punctuation and spelling. In reality, lawyers rely heavily on their staff to correct errors, omissions, inconsistencies, misspelling, poor grammar and the like. (No offense, you guys, you're all very smart--really!) However, experience has taught me that one's level of education does not guarantee good writing skills.
